Dawson Creek

Okay, it has officially been 9 days since I posted anything last, and to break this long dry spell, I have to break out a post about good old Dawson Creek. This, I am doing for my wonderful roomate Nisha who has requested a post on it since I showed her the frightening Dawson Creek video (<- Yes, that's it there, it takes a while to finish downloading but it's well worth it if you really are bored and want to feel like you're dying of cancer or counting down the hours, minutes, and seconds until you get off work, like Nisha is probably doing). There are also other videos on life and commerce in Dawson Creek if you decide the first one didn't torture you enough. Actually, I really do like Dawson Creek because my friends are there, or at least a few are left. The rollerblading paths through the parks are really awesome, and there's nothing like being less than a ten minute drive to get to any part of the city. Unlike an hour and a half long bus ride to get from, say, Capilano or Clareview in Edmonton to West Ed. Ahhh... torture... unless that bus really has something amusing on it or you feel safe enough to fall asleep. I think Dawson Creek might have two city buses... I also really like having the Credit Union in Dawson Creek. I miss the savings account with a good rate and free debit transactions, and being able to deposit a cheque and having access to the money a few seconds later. I mean, where else are they that nice to you? But there are some downfalls to Dawson Creek. Such as... there really isn't a whole lot to do. If you're like Ian or Jamie, you could probably go drive a tractor for entertainment (just kidding guys, you know I love u). We do have a single movie theatre, hopefully when the multiplex comes in that will make it a bit more fun. I'm not really a fan of the Wal-mart, maybe because I was gone when it was built and it still feels like it doesn't belong there. I have to say that summer and spring are the best times in Dawson Creek because the freedom of being able to take off and walk/rollerblade almost anywhere with some friends are some of the greatest times I've ever had. Also, Dawson Creek has lots of grocery stores and restaurants. My personal favourites are Extra foods, Safeway, Hug-A-Mug, Smitties, Subway, the Diner and Deli, Boston Pizza, Mr. Mikes, Tim Horton's.. and there's a few more. Mostly because that's where my friends and I have wreaked havoc upon innocent members of the community... ahhh... random facts.... And here's a City Map. In my dream, I was going south down 8th Street, which is the main street in Dawson Creek. Well, that, and Alaska Ave. Which reminds me, Dawson Creek might be most famous for having the name most like the TV show, but its second claim to fame is that it is the start of the Alaska Highway, the longest highway in the world. I think. Well, that's what all the U.S. tourists come to see in the summer. And my all time favourite thing about Dawson Creek is that I can go outside at night and see stars. Lots of them. Not just satellites like here in Edmonton *sigh*. Seeing the eclipse this year would have been so much better in my backyard in DC. Well, I think I've said enough, please, anybody else who knows DC, what do you like most about it? Also, as a final thought: A big happy sweet sixteenth birthday to the Dude back in Dawson Creek! Hope you have a blast!

Funny how when you live somewhere, you never actually go to half the places in your town...like I've never actually been to Hug-a-mug, or Caruso's or half the other restaraunts in town. Anyway, Dawson is a pretty cool place, but I think that we are known for the drugs more than the fact that we are Mile 0. As a side note, the theatre jacked their prices to $7.00 for youth and I think $8 for adult...hopefully it is to raise enough money to build a better one.:P Jamie-Joy

Awesome. I just wanted to know who you were. Dawson's Creek is the poopster, the OC is where it's at! Nice to get to know Ian's friends. Next time I throw a party, I'll be sure to pass the invite to you as well!

Woot! Woot!

Im not sure whats sadder, the fact that you havnt posted in like 11 days of the fact that i hadn't read the post until now? I have some things to say like, ah, some of the rollerblade trails, not so hot, bad "pavement". and the high interest rate in the savings account? .5%, again not so hot. but dont get me wrong im not totally dising the DC, im just pointing out some "misconceptions" if you will. I also like the wording on your "for having the name most like the TV show". clever and accuate. and the stars thing. last weekish i saw some amazing northern lights while walking home (in edmonton) on seperate lights. they were cool. anyway ya,
Ian

Psst... Ian! I loved the rollerblading trails!! Maybe they went downhill this last summer while I was gone (no pun intended!!) And that .5% (actually, my account was jet savings, so I got a gigantic .75%) was an important 13 cents or so a month that I know I appreciated immensely. But I mostly liked how easy it was to use that bank... CIBC is a pain in the butt sometimes, and when I see that $4.00 or so that disappears every month it brings a tear to me eye. It's pretty cool that u got to see the Northern lights (wish I could have too, that would have been nice!) ... but seeing the stars at night would be the one thing I miss most about home. Wow, enough nostalgia already. Don't worry, I'm liking it here just fine right now!! P.S. Ana! what does the O.C. stand for??? So confused! And have u been to Dawson Creek?

I hear that Dawson is getting a casino (although not confirmed), and they moved the KFC to across Alaska Ave, (by the way, you don't know me), and they changed the Smitty's to a White Spot and they put a new bookstore on ... I think 102nd. I lived their for my first 17 (almost 18) years and haven't been there since August. Sigh, I miss the crick.

Hi Jeanine,
Just thought I would let you know that my comments re: the "anonymous post" on Smokey J's website were more directed toward the fact that derogatory comments towards Smokey's character were made from behind a wall of anonymity. I agree that sometimes you don't want to be known, but if that is the case, then you best not point at others or put them down unless you have the courage to reveal who you are. Do you here me?

One more thing...From one who "grew up" (I use that term loosely)on the "mean streets" (I also use that term loosely) of big city Vancouver,I would pick Dawson Creek over Edmonton anyday.
Peace Out
